IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arthur W.
Pellerin
December 20, 1966 – August 18, 2024
Arthur William Pellerin, 57, of Groveland, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 18th after a brief but courageous battle with glioblastoma. He was born in Brunswick, Maine to the late Ovilda and Carol (Pickard) Pellerin.
Throughout his school years, Art was an avid baseball player and a strong student. By first grade he declared to his mother, "Mom, I can count money and I'm getting the hang of reading so do I really need to go back to school?" When he was 12, Art joined his parents' band, the Imperials, playing drums and singing. He was lovingly referred to as "Little Art" as his grandfather "Big Art's" namesake. In 1981, after his father's passing, he and his mother moved back to the family farm in Alburgh, Vermont.
Art graduated from SUNY Potsdam on a presidential scholarship where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and economics. He then completed his master's degree in education at the University of Vermont. Art received his teaching certificate and taught mathematics at Essex High School (EHS) in Vermont for 30 years. He taught all levels of high school mathematics and dedicated many extra hours to helping students after school. He served as the EHS Math League coach for many years and developed the BC advanced placement calculus honors program, a three-year program which enabled high school students to take the BC exam for college credit. In 2004, Art received the U.S Presidential Scholars Program Teacher Recognition Award. His legacy will live on in the achievements and lives of the students who had the privilege of having him as their teacher. In the words of a colleague, "Art had a keen ability to push students to their fullest potential while infusing his humor and wit into all aspects of the classroom. He connected with students because they knew he cared deeply about them."
Art is survived by the love of his life, Rita (Pirsic) his wife of 35 years; his aunts: Elizabeth Pickard and husband Robert Fricke, Julie Brunell and husband Dennis and Dorothy Brunell and husband Herman; his cousins: Kayse Brunell, Drew Brunell and wife Ashley and Kate Ryan and husband Matt; his nieces, Tammy Perry-Kramarz and Darlene Sirois; his two parrots, Gizmo and Nikita as well as extended family in Maine and Florida. At Art's request, there will be no funeral services.
