Obituary

Bernard Crawford, 76, of Groveland, died peacefully on September 11th. He was born in Paterson, New Jersey on January 11th, 1949 to Eleanor and Bernard, Sr. He grew up with a boisterous extended family, graduating from Don Bosco High School and St. Peter's University. He met the love of his life, Barbara Cardona, in 1970. They married in 1972 and Bern spent the next 53 years living for her happiness.

Bern was a delight. Known for his integrity and not being able to whisper, he was honest and strong, with a love for music, cars, food and eventually, soccer. With his larger than life personality, there wasn't an occasion where he couldn't get everyone laughing. Always the leader of the pack, Bern used his keen intellect for both mischief and benevolence, often getting his children in trouble when they were supposed to be sitting quietly.

One of his favorite things to do while travelling was to ask the locals for restaurant recommendations. This led to some amazing and unique meals, as well as a family breakfast in a 24-hour bar in St. Augustine, Florida. (Pomar's, we'll never forget you.)

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their three children, Elaine (James Reed), Bernard III (Iris Fuerst), and Marie (John Larmon), and three grandchildren, James and Tabitha Reed, and Lily Fuerst. Bern took tremendous pride in his family. He never missed a dance recital, school play, or awards ceremony. He coached his son's soccer teams for twelve years, becoming a beloved coach and father figure to many in the community.

Adhering to a rigorous nap schedule, Bern died during his pre-dinner nap, with the savory aroma of his wife's cooking filling the house.

His family hopes when you think of Bern, it's with laughter and maybe an irreverent joke.
