IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty L.
Phillips
April 20, 1933 – October 2, 2025
Our world lost a bright light on October 2, 2024 for we lost our dear mother, Betty Lou Phillips. Born in Arkansas and raised in Missouri, the youngest girl in a very large family of five girls and five boys, she spent her early years singing in the glee club, playing volleyball, picking cotton and dreaming of being a fashion designer. She won a pretty girl contest as a teenager but hated it because she never wanted to be the center of attention. Through Divine providence, she met our father when he visited Missouri from Florida and from that time, as he would tell it, there was no one else for him but her and we could see that the feeling was mutual.
She was extremely talented, creating and sewing clothes for her children including both of her daughters' wedding dresses, upholstering and refinishing all types of furniture, landscaping her yards with beautiful flowers and exotic plants, and painting both houses and landscapes. In fact, visitors to her home frequently left with a canvas under their arm.
She loved her family fiercely; children, their spouses, their children and their friends. In fact, many people when told of her passing have commented that she was like a second mother to them. She kept every card and letter ever sent to her and she was such a constant presence of support and encouragement, that many of those cards would thank her for "always being there."
She was very proud of her children instilling in them the belief that they could do anything in life, and anything they chose to do, was okay by her. She never became a fashion designer but she became our mother, how lucky were we?
We have no planned arrangements at this time, but if you feel inclined, consider donating to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation or to your local hospice in mom's name. These organizations help so much and do such a difficult job.
