Charles O. Wendorf
LEESBURG, FL- Charles O. Wendorf (Chuck), age 89, died on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, Leesburg Regional Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer.
Born July 21, 1929 in Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Frieda Wendorf. He is survived by his wife, Delores (Dee) Wendorf, and children. Thomas Wendorf and his wife Leslie of Selbyville, DE, Teri Boteler and her husband Paul, of Mt. Airy, MD, Todd Wendorf and his wife, Kathleen, of Marysville, PA, and Gary Volmer and Sarah Matney of Travelers Rest, South Carolina. There are 13 grandchildren, Bill Wendorf (April), Paige Bell (Ben), Sarah Garringer (Bryan), Mary Huffman, Michelle Lopez, Becky Hackett (Kyal), Jeff Boteler (Bobbi), Laura Bohan (Brendan), Nikolas Wendorf, Amy Klippel, James Klippel, Christopher Volmer, Christina Cole (Patrick) and 18 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Trevor, Parker, Abigail, Bryan Jr., Devon, Michaela, Roy Jr., Riley, Brittany, Hannah, Carter, Brooke, Alex, Caroline, Connor, Finley and Katharine. He is also survived by sister Grace Wendorf (Norm Thorpe) of Milwaukee, WI and brother Dennis Wendorf (Dolores) of New Berlin, WI.
Chuck was predeceased by his first wife, Dianne (nee Sieber), stepson Jeff Volmer, granddaughter Kristina Jette (nee Wendorf) and son Timothy Wendorf.
Chuck was raised in Milwaukee, WI, graduated from Milwaukee Lutheran High School and from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. He married Dianne in 1951 and moved to Maryland to accept a teaching position in Prince George's County. He earned a Master's degree from the University of Maryland. He continued his career in Education with the Prince George's Board of Education with various positions and retired as Director of Pupil Accounting in January of 1979.
Chuck moved to North Carolina in 1979 and lost his first wife in 1980. He married Delores in 1981 and taught school in Guilford County. After teaching for 10 years in North Carolina, he retired a second time. In 2011, he and Dee relocated to Florida, first in Eustis, FL and then to Leesburg, FL.
Chuck was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Leesburg, FL.
Chuck was a caring man, and greatly enjoyed visiting his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and anyone else he could visit. He enjoyed traveling to various places, as long as he didn't have to fly.
Chuck was also a sports fan, and rooted for the Packers, Panthers and Redskins in the NFL and the University of Wisconsin and University of Maryland football and basketball teams. Whenever he had the opportunity, he would watch his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren compete in their various athletic activities.
He had a competitive nature and in his early years enjoyed duckpin bowling and playing cards. He later started playing golf and bocce, which he continued into his final year.
A memorial service will be held February 16, 2019 in Walkersville, MD at Peace in Christ Lutheran Church starting at 1:00. The Reverend David Betzner will be officiating. A reception will follow.
