Obituary

Daniel Wayne Pollock, 70, passed away unexpectedly on Friday June 27th, only 10 days after discovering pancreatic cancer. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 50 years, Janis; his two beautiful daughters, Jennifer (Mike) and Bethany; his adoring grandchildren, Evan and Rachel; his 3 brothers Barry (Terri), Gary, Dean (Carla) and their families; his brothers-in-law Lawrence (Chris, Kathryn, Michele) and Garth (Lea); and many caring extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his father, Lawrence, and mother, Marion; and his father- and mother-in-law, Orval and Velma.

Dan was born in Yorkton Saskatchewan and spent his early years on a farm near Bethune. As a youth he enjoyed playing baseball and hockey. Dan married his high-school sweetheart, Janis, at 19 in Lumsden Saskatchewan.

Dan started work as a lineman for Sasktel, and transitioned into sales for Sasktel, then Wang Computers, in Regina. Dan and Janis built their first home in Lumsden, and welcomed their 2 girls in 1981 and '86. In 1988, the family moved to Calgary and Dan continued to excel in leadership roles at Calgary Copier and Ikon Office Solutions, known widely as a gifted problem-solver and empathetic leader. He was passionate about service to his community, playing a key role in both the local Kinsmen and Rotary organizations. They raised their girls in Calgary, going on many adventures camping, skiing, boating, and entertaining friends. An opportunity for Dan to lead a new company acquisition moved the family to Lethbridge for 2 years in the mid-90s, before returning to Calgary in 1997.

After the girls left for University, Dan and Janis jumped at the chance to move to Orlando Florida where Dan lead the North American operations for Vehicle Inspection Systems. They moved into the Summit Greens community where they made many wonderful and dear friends.

After retiring in 2011, Dan and Janis poured their hearts into a fine art wood-turning business, affectionately named PollockWorks, working as true partners to successfully create and sell their pepper mill, ice cream scoop and pizza cutter products at markets throughout Florida for nearly 10 years.

Never one to pass up an adventure, he spent summers traveling with Janis in their camperized Sprinter van across the US and Canada, exploring the countries on their way to spend time with friends and family at their home in Invermere BC, and visiting loved ones in Saskatchewan.

No creative idea was ever too wild for Dan to tackle - he transformed many of his girls' imaginative ideas into reality, always willing to lend a hand for friends and family alike. Grandparenting brought him much joy, and he also enjoyed healthy cooking, riding bikes, and date nights with his sweetheart.

Dan and Janis celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December 2024, creating a precious memory with family that will be forever cherished. He will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held at Summit Greens in Clermont Florida on the afternoon of Tuesday July 22nd 2025, with a second celebration in Regina Saskatchewan at date to be determined later this Fall.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of these charities that are working hard to improve early detection for pancreatic cancer that, as in Dan's case, is often not discovered until it's too late.
