IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David L.
Bugbee
July 28, 1943 – February 24, 2025
David Leroy Bugbee, 81, of Mount Dora, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025. He was born on July 28, 1943, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to Carl W. and Lucille (Bartlett) Bugbee.
David proudly served his country in the United States Army as part of the Army RA Artillery from 1965 to 1968. A hardworking and determined man, he carried the values of dedication and resilience throughout his life.
In 1979, he made the move to Florida, where he was lovingly welcomed by his sister, Doris, with a sign at the Snowbird and a song—Colija and the Sitern and Shifting Song—which she sang to them in celebration of their reunion.
On June 2, 1990, David married the love of his life, Rebecca "Becky" (Johnson). Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
David was a man of great character—funny, loving, and firm when needed. His children knew the unmistakable "Bugbee look" that let them know exactly when it was time to behave. A talented woodworker, he had the ability to turn simple pieces of wood into beautiful creations, from homes to keepsake chests, always putting his heart into his craft. He found peace and joy on the water, spending many happy days boating and fishing in Crystal River.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Becky; his children, Dawnn Bugbee and partner Toby Cantler, Kristy Eichhorn, Jennifer Johnson and wife Missy Hatch, Eric Johnson and wife Kelly. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to many who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ann Bugbee and sister, Laura Ellis.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Doris J. Hamilton, James "Jim" H. Bugbee Sr. and Jerry Bugbee.
Above all, David had a gift for making people feel special. He always went the extra mile for those he loved, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his family and friends.
He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, laughter, and strength will live on in those who were blessed to know him.
