Obituary

Born March 18, 1944 in Rochester, New York, Diane lived in the Nineteenth Ward on Dunbar Street as a child. She was educated at P.S. 37 and West High School where she graduated in 1962. The old country Dutch work ethic was instilled early in her life as she worked at The Dog House on Conesus Lake as a teenager, pushing hot dogs to the locals and later at Neisner's Five and Dime.

Athleticism had been Diane's signature attribute throughout those years as she spun her baton, swam the width of Conesus Lake, roller-skated hundreds of laps at Long Point Skating Rink, found her groove at Genesee Valley Park ice rink, and square-danced herself dizzy for many years, some at competitive levels. Of course, Denny's marriage prerequisite vows included roller skating dancing lessons and western square dance lessons. As a couple, they were about to join the archery club in their community. Diane's thirty-seven years as a paralegal began in 1962 at the Robinson, Williams, Angelof and Frank Law Firm in downtown Rochester. She mentored many young bloods who thirsted for the legal arena. Perhaps it was Diane's legal profession that gave her the incentive to spearhead into competitive archery where she collected several medals at national events.

One fine day in 1984, while waltzing gracefully around the Horizon Roller Skating Rink with her very able partner, Diane glided by this lonely sideline observer, her short black tutu unfurled by the breeze. It was lust at first sight and four years later, Diane married Denny Rudd. That union predicated a phenomenal thirty-one-year journey, where their two careers led them to an early retirement in 1999 at age fifty-five. They then enjoyed fifteen years traveling our country's highways and dusty roads as full time RVers.

As snowbirds, the balmy summers were spent in Gravel Ponds Family Campground in Scottsville, New York and Niagara's Lazy Lakes Campground in Lewiston, New York. The winters were spent in the southern United States, travelling coast to coast.

Seeing a need to help other RVers to be more comfortable and augment their income, Diane and Denny started a business partnership fabricating protective sunscreens to hang on motorhomes and campers. And what a partnership it was for over twenty years as they worked feverishly together to meet tight schedules for weekend campers who wanted to go home on a Sunday night with their high-quality finished product. Perhaps the real product was the hundreds of new friends they made and cherished over the years.

Diane relished the lifestyle, just as she loved life, ready to join Denny in the next adventure, always a next adventure. So many times, she would say "Life is so precious" as they rounded another curve in their journey together. Diane's friendly warming smile and loving ways towards others will surely be her legacy.

Diane was a resident of Leesburg, Florida in the Hawthorne Community. She passed peacefully to her new high-rise in Heaven at 11:25 AM on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 with family members and friends supporting her at bedside.

Diane is predeceased by her parents; John and Mildred Verblaw, three brothers-in-law; B. Dale Garrett, Terry Rudd and Joey Pallone. She is survived by Dennis, her loving husband of 31 years, two daughters; Jayne (Paul) Cassick and Diane (Charlie) Lamos, two sisters; Carol Garrett and Doris (Joseph) Ziegler, niece Karen (Richard) Ziegler, five nephews; Steven Wahl, Gary (Dawn) Wahl and Jim (Nadine) McNeil, Terry (Nancy) Rudd and Brian (Samantha) Rudd, three sisters-in-law; Rhona (John) Rodgers and children; Sarah (Robert) Sztabkowski and Jay (Meghan) Rodgers, Debbie Pallone, Wanda Borotto-Rudd and five grandchildren; Jacob, Matthew, Carly, Jake and Kyle.
