Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" (Gorton) Abita, 86, of Minneola, FL, left us on April 4, 2023. She was born in Scranton, PA, to the late John and Violet (Peat) Gorton. Betty was the Secretary-Treasurer for Wayne Savings and Loan in Wayne, NJ. After she and her partner Bill retired, they enjoyed traveling. They settled in North Carolina, where they volunteered for the Roanoke Fire Department. As a nurturing caregiver, Betty participated in various reading programs for children. Never wanting to be far from family, Betty & Bill relocated back up north to a new home in Albrightsville, PA, and escaped the cold each winter at their vacation location in Long Key, FL. They met many new friends along her journey; if you became her friend, you were a friend for life.

In her leisure time, she found pleasure in sewing, cooking and entertaining, dancing, reading, bowling, playing card and board games, BINGO, and taking an occasional trip to the casino. What she loved most of all, however, was spending time and creating memories with family and friends.

Betty is survived by her four daughters: Paulette Brown and husband Richard, Christina Chiarella and husband Vito, Laura Abita-Kleinberg and husband Steven, and Catherine Infantino; her adored grandchildren: Kelly Roma and husband Anthony, Richard Brown Jr., Ryan Brown, Nicole Michalek and husband Dan, Lisa Wiss and husband Alain, and Dylan Infantino; her precious great-grandchildren: Rocco Roma, Parker Dyson Brown, Giovanni Roma, Danny Michalek, Nicklas Crosby, and Cecelia Michalek. In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her loving husband, Albert James Abita, life partner William Ives, and siblings Robert Gorton, Lillian Eckstrom, Verna Mitchell, and William Gorton.

She was our angel in the shape of our Mom/Nana/Gigi. You are loved and missed. You will be forever in our hearts and memories…. Until we meet again.
