Frank Silas Lillard, Jr., affectionately known as “Lil Sweets,” passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 3, 2026, at the age of 80, following an acute onset of AML (leukemia). He was at home in Clermont, Florida, where he relocated in 2025 from Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, surrounded by comfort and love. In his final days, he was blessed with visits from close family, who gathered to celebrate his 80th birthday, share memories, and spend meaningful time together.
Frank lived with remarkable strength and resilience through several chronic health conditions in recent years, always maintaining his gentle spirit and quiet determination.
Born on March 13, 1946, in Bertha Mine (Washington County, Pennsylvania), to the late Frank Sr. and Virginia Caroline Lillard, Frank embodied what it truly means to be a good man. He was kind, soft-spoken, and generous, always willing to lend a hand. Whether helping with small tasks, running errands, or simply checking in, he made sure those around him were cared for. His greatest priority in life was his family, and he worked tirelessly to ensure his children were raised with guidance, safety, and love.
Frank proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy submariner from 1965 to 1969. He achieved the rank of Radioman Second Class (RM2 SS), earned his Dolphins, and served aboard the USS Cutlass (SS-478). Following his military service, he built a successful career in sales with McGraw-Edison and later the Red Valve Company.
He loved watching all sports, especially women’s and men’s NCAA basketball and college and NFL football. He played mens’, fast-pitch softball in Langeloth for many years, for several teams. He had good skill and speed on the field and at bat. Teammates called him “Omar” for his speed. He later umpired for the league for a brief time as well.
Frank will be best known as the one who always asked about your plans, whether for school, work, or a trade, and who genuinely cared about keeping life on track. He loved to dance at weddings, parties, and even around the house. At frequent family gatherings, he was always first in the food line, something that never failed to make everyone smile. He had a sweet tooth, which earned him the nickname “Lil Sweets,” all while somehow staying fit.
Frank is survived by his three children: Laverne Conley and husband Chad, Lauren Lillard and Derick Lillard and wife Alysha. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Cordell Conley and wife Bayley, Cyle Conley and partner Kamden Miller and Sebastian and Sara Lillard.
Frank had four siblings, including his loving sisters Patricia Lillard-Tomblin and Lorraine “Von” Lillard-Howard. He held a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews: James Cassels and wife Alicia, Paul Howard III and Tia Howard; Tony Whiting and wife Yolanda and Robbie Lillard (deceased). He also cherished his great-nieces and nephews: Blake, Morgan, and Mason Cassels, and Tiara Welch. Frank was married twice.
A Celebration of Frank’s Life will be held privately. Online tributes and favorite memories of our Pops/Dad, Father-in-Law, Pap, Brother, Uncle, and friend are greatly welcomed, and we look forward to reading about the joys he brought to each of you.
Memorial donations in Frank’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society to continue the fight against cancer.
