Harlan M. Jones, 97, of Clermont, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026. Born on April 12, 1929, Harlan spent his early years in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he attended school. He continued his education at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He built a successful career in the construction equipment industry and was respected for his knowledge, integrity, and strong work ethic.

Harlan proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy for four years. His dedication to service continued throughout his life through his religious involvement with Living Hope Church in Clermont, Florida and in numerous civic and fraternal organizations including the Vinton, Iowa Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

Music was one of Harlan’s lifelong passions. He played the violin throughout grade school and high school and later performed with the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra for a time. He was an avid reader, a lifelong learner, and a champion Apple computer user. He enjoyed traveling, including many cruises, and cherished social gatherings with family and friends.

Above all, Harlan will be remembered for his quiet, gentle spirit. He was a trusted counselor to young people, often offering wisdom and guidance to his grandchildren, sometimes without their parents even knowing. He was a loving, kind, and gentle soul who will be deeply missed.

Harlan is survived by Ann, his wife of 46 years; his children: Steve Jones of St. Joseph, Missouri; Kathy Edel of Onalaska, Wisconsin; and Karen Wise of Lisbon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dr. Vicky Jones. He is also survived by his stepson, Rick Ridenour of Phoenix, Arizona; eight grandchildren; two step-grandsons; two long-term foster granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter, Ella.
