Obituary

Lillian Lucille Hannah Stokes, a loving wife, mother and friend passed away peacefully on February 21,
2020 at the age of 90. She was a lifelong artist who enjoyed painting and writing poetry. She played a
mean game of tennis and remained on the court until the age of 80. She was the widow of Richard
"Dick" Stokes, mother of Laura Henry (Mike) and Rebecca Mendoza (Manny), grandmother of Alden,
Abby, Alex and Drew, and great-grandmother of Presley and Palmer Lillian.
Born in Cataloochee, NC to Mark and Verda Hannah, she grew up in the Smoky Mountains and spent as
much time as she could there throughout her life, usually in the company of her sisters and brothers:
Helen (dec.), Harold, Lowell (dec.), Joyce, Lois and Don.
Lillian loved a good party – especially if there was bluegrass music and dancing. She will always be
remembered for her love of people and a good conversation. Many have expressed appreciation for
how she made them feel after a good chat.
There will be a family party in North Carolina to honor her memory.
