Luis Angel Nieves Duroy

Luis Nieves, of Clermont, Florida, was born on December 23, 1944, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, and passed peacefully into eternal rest at home, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family.

A hardworking man, Luis was deeply dedicated to his family and to living life with purpose. He had a profound appreciation for music, culture, nature, and God’s creation. Much of his time was spent outdoors, tending to his yard, planting and nurturing new life, or repairing whatever needed attention, he was truly a gifted “fixer” who took pride in caring for his home and surroundings.

Though he could be stern, grumpy, and strong-willed at times, these traits were always balanced by a deep well of love, loyalty, and devotion to his family.

Luis found his greatest joy and purpose in being a grandfather, a role he embraced with boundless love, pride, and devotion. Known affectionately as the “World’s Greatest Grandpa,” and lovingly called “Pompy,” he was a constant source of strength, warmth, and joy in the lives of his grandchildren. He was ever-present, physically and emotionally, a faithful protector, a gentle guide, and a creator of happiness. His love was unconditional, and his commitment to nurturing curiosity, play, and growth in his grandchildren knew no limits.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Rosa Nieves, with whom he shared 56 years of love and commitment. He was a proud and loving father to his daughters: Dena Nieves (Carlos), Marangely Nieves (Melvin), and Brizeida Nieves. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Jonathan Vasquez, Jennifer Vasquez (Jacqueline), Dayamara Nieves (Chad), Jacob Perez (Kyandra), and Jocelyn Garcia (Nicolas). Luis is also survived by his dear sisters, Ruth (Jesus) and Doris, great number of nieces and nephews, as well as his cherished grand-dogs, Franklin, Shiloh, and Raya, who brought him immense joy and companionship.

Luis was preceded in death by his parents, Flor Nieves Robles and Monserrate Duroy Nieves; his brothers, Angel, Daniel, Moises, and Samuel; and his sisters, Noemi and Carmen.

One of Luis’ greatest dreams was to return to his beloved “Island of Enchantment,” Puerto Rico, to purchase land and live a simple, fulfilling life on a farm. While that dream remained unfinished in this life, his family finds comfort in knowing he has found something even more beautiful in Heaven. His earthly remains will return to Puerto Rico, where he will be laid to rest.

Luis lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind a legacy of strength, resilience, love, and laughter. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
