Obituary

Nina Mae (Grogg) MacDonald, 72, of Clermont, passed away on July 20, 2024. She was born in Elba, Alabama to the late Roscoe Vaiden Grogg Sr. and Connie Mae Swain and grew up in Smiths Station, and graduated with the Class of 1970.

On December 7, 1971 Nina Mae married Louis Raymond MacDonald and moved to his home state New Jersey, where they lived for 44 years. Together they were blessed with one daughter, Rachael Katherine Ann MacDonald. Nina worked as a bookkeeper at Elmont Steel until she started working overnights and late evenings so she could be home with her daughter most of the day. Nina loved the arts, especially dance, and she was passionate about collecting dolls. Nina enjoyed family vacations to Disney World where her favorite ride was "It's a Small World." In 2015, Nina and Louis moved back to her home state of Alabama to be closer to her siblings and family.

In 2019 Nina moved to Florida to be near her daughter, son-in-law, and their growing family; where she delighted in babysitting, having sleepovers, playing dress up, and coloring with her grandbabies. She often referred to them as her universe and spent each day loving them. Nina never had the opportunity to go to Disney with her grandchildren, however, she enjoyed video calls and photos of them experiencing Disney. Nina lived for her grandbabies and battled so many illnesses just to have more time with them.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Louis Raymond MacDonald; daughter Rachael Katherine Ann Smoyak; son-in-law Wesley William Smoyak III; and her cherished grandchildren Phoebe Reese Smoyak, Wesley William Smoyak IV, and Sabrina Valerie Smoyak. As well as her siblings Millie Bass and Roscoe Grogg Jr., and a host of nieces and nephews.

Nina was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Linda Key, Madeline Sadler, and Peggy Grogg.

Nina was a beautiful soul who believed in showing love and compassion to all. She sent good morning messages each day, she was always last to let go of a hug and told the people she cared for that she loved them every single day.

She will be deeply missed and loved, always.
