Obituary

Richard "Rick" Eugene Jaynes, Sr. passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, in Clermont, Florida, at the age of 85. A devoted husband, father, and brother, he shared an extraordinary 62 year journey with his beloved wife, Betty. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering commitment to family.

Born in Lima, Ohio, on May 28, 1939, Rick graduated from Lima Senior High School before proudly enlisting in the Marines alongside his brother, Ronald "Ronnie" Jaynes. They endured basic training together, forging a bond of brotherhood and service. When offered a choice between being stationed in Key West or Guantanamo Bay, Rick unknowingly made one of the best decisions of his life choosing Key West, where fate would lead him to the love of his life.

While working at a local movie theater, Betty caught Rick's eye, and from that moment, their hearts were inseparable. It was love at first sight. A year later, just a week after Betty graduated high school, they married, beginning a beautiful partnership that stood the test of time.

After his four-year tour with the Marines, Rick dedicated 28 years of service to the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and his community. He retired at the age of 49, embracing life with the same enthusiasm and kindness that defined his years in uniform. Rick and Betty then made Clermont their home for the last 22 years, where they enjoyed the simple joys of togetherness and treasured time with loved ones.

Rick will be lovingly remembered as an exceptional husband, father, and brother. He is survived by his adoring wife, Betty Jaynes; his son, Ricky Jaynes and wife Cindy and his daughter, Rhea Boa and husband Anthony; his brother, Tommy Jaynes and wife Ann and his sister, Lois Otto and husband Patrick. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Payton Jaynes, Cameron Carey, and Lynell Carey and his great-granddaughter, Kinsley Sjursen. He was predeceased by his parents Lundy "Orlo" and Thelma Jaynes ; and his brother, Ronnie Jaynes.

In keeping with Rick and Betty's wishes, their ashes will be combined and laid to rest in the Bazo family plot in Key West, a city that played such a special role in their love story. No formal memorial service will be held. For those who wish to honor his legacy in a meaningful way, the family kindly suggests contributions be made to the Wounded Warriors Project https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/ reflecting his family's steadfast support for veterans.

Personal condolences may be mailed to The Jaynes Family c/o Cremation Choices, 921 S US Highway 27, Minneola, FL 34715
