It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Allen "Bob" East, 74, of Leesburg, who peacefully left us on December 5, 2024. Born in Upper Darby, PA to the late Chester and Mary (Swanki) East, Bob grew up in Drexel Hill, PA before relocating to Hawthorne at Leesburg in 2015, where he found a new home and made lasting memories.
Bob proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a corpsman aboard the USS Caloosahatchee in the U.S. Navy. After his military service, he dedicated his career to helping others as an optometrist, working for LensCrafters until his well-earned retirement.
In his later years, Bob found great joy in playing softball, joining the Hawthorne Men's Softball team shortly after moving to Leesburg. A familiar sight on first base, he loved the camaraderie and fun the sport brought, enjoying friendships that he treasured deeply. His spirit and enthusiasm for the game were a testament to his positive outlook on life.
Bob leaves behind his devoted wife, Diane Cleaveland. Although they met later in life, their love for one another grew immeasurably and was evident to all who knew them. He is also survived by his children: James East and wife Elizabeth, Robyn East, Kim McCloskey, and Tracey Jillard; his grandchildren: Tyler, Tianna, Nikkoi, Kash, Sarah, Lilly, Grace, Andrew; his sister Sue Darby and husband Joe; and many dear friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and generosity.
