Russell T. Gates, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Russell proudly served his country as a Vietnam veteran. He was a devoted husband of 50 years and dearly loved his family, especially the joy of being a grandfather.

Russell was an avid golfer and Disney enthusiast, later moving to Florida where he enjoyed living the last five years of his life. He is survived by his two sons, Christopher and wife Anabel and Nicholas Gates; six grandchildren: Aidan, Alaina, Dalia, David, Joseph, and Isaiah; one brother; one sister, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann (Etheridge) Gates, and by his parents, Vernon and Alma (Hendershot) Gates.

Russell will be remembered for his love of family, his devotion, and the joy he brought to those around him.

A graveside service will be held in Joliet, IL at a later date.
